Alison had the perfect life - a million dollar home, a successful husband, and two beautiful children. But when her husband commits suicide, she's paralyzed with guilt, and resentment. Two years after her husband’s death, she moves her family to her childhood home halfway across the country, hoping that distance will heal her heart and mend her relationship with her daughter. At first she suspects that her old friend, Sheriff Scott Hutchinson, is her secret admirer, but as the notes turn threatening, Scott convinces her that the stalker is no love-struck Romeo. He becomes her protector, and romantic feelings that were once denied in high school are rekindled. The closer she gets to Scott, the more threatening the notes become.

When a young woman is murdered on a quiet country road, the close-knit community of Barrett wants answers, and Scott is under pressure to find a killer - especially since he's been implicated in the murder. As Alison’s memories of a childhood friend and a deaf boy resurface, she realizes she holds the key to solving a cryptic message left on the victim.  A message that ties together a string of murders scattered across several states. And when the homeless man approaches Alison with a sign that reads Location, Location, Location, she understands the meaning too late to identify the killer before he comes for her.
